Michael A. Schmidt, Ph.D. has spent some 20 years in the field of molecular medicine, metabolic modeling, physiologic monitoring, and pattern recognition related to human performance. He is on the faculty of the University of South Florida College Medicine, where he lectures on molecular medicine, neuroplasticity, metabolic networks, systems theory, and clinical chemistry. Dr. Schmidt collaborates in primary research on human pathogens with the Infectious Disease Research Center at Colorado State University. This work is focused on microbial threats, such as MRSA, Dengue Fever, and others. He is also a Principal Investigator on a series of human performance studies at NASA Ames Research Center. In collaboration with scientists from the Southwest Research Institute, he is currently working to develop some of the early human attended biomedical experiments that will be launched by Virgin Galactic and XCOR, as part of the commercial suborbital space program.
